Earlier this year Scotts reformulated it's Turf Builder Bonus S Weed & Feed along with some other products in an effort to gain more weed control. Instead unsuspecting homeowners have been faced with damaged or even completely dead centipede grass. This information was first brought to light by Myrtle Beach South Carolina area news channel WBTW News 13 who first published the story August 4th, 2015. News 13 of Myrtle Beach investigated what local resident Ronald Winson said about spending hundreds of dollars to fix the damaged that was caused by Scotts Turf Builder. News 13 soon found out that indeed Scotts had already received thousands of complaints from homeowners with centipede grass across the east coast with the same problems.
Centipede Grass Died
Winson first noticed this lawn had dying grass, brown spots and bare spots after using Scotts Turf Builder. He did say that he has used the Scotts brand before for years without ever having any problems. Anyone that has has this same problem can go onto Scotts website to file a claim. Consumers should expect to hear from a Scotts Representative within 1 to 2 weeks. Scotts recently made a statement on their website about the damaged lawns:
“For nearly 150 years, Scotts has been helping homeowners enjoy a beautiful outdoor space. We take pride in our work as leaders in the lawn and garden industry, so when we hear about even one unhappy homeowner, that’s too many for us.
In recent weeks, your experience with our product may have failed to meet your expectations. This year, in an effort to improve our popular Scotts® Turf Builder® Bonus® S Southern Weed & Feed, we changed the formulation for better weed control. Unfortunately, some homeowners, primarily those with centipede grass, have reported damage to their lawns after using this new product.
We deeply apologize for the inconvenience our consumers may be experiencing.
Scotts is committed to doing what is necessary and appropriate to repair any damage to your lawn. However, given the nature of this matter, it may take several weeks or longer to address concerns associated with your lawn. We are grateful for your patience during this time.

Scotts Claim Process
As consumers learn more about the problem Scotts continues to receive complaints thru their website. Homeowners can open up a claim by visiting Scotts.com. There is an online form to fill out or Contact the Scotts Hotline at 877-309-9560. Scotts says it will take 5 to 10 business days to reply to claims. Due to the nature of this issue Scotts has already replaced sod, reseeded lawns and refunded the purchase price of the purchase. But beware you have to proof that your purchased and used their product.
